VMWare Player 3.0 (A boon to Linux Hackers/Newbies)

In my previous post, I discussed about VMWare Workstation, on how it can be used to create virtual machines and run various operating systems on them. However, it doesn’t come for free. It has lots of advanced features (like taking a snapshot of the virtual machine, cloning a virtual machine etc), but they may not be so important for newbies/students.

VMWare Player 3.0 is a nice alternative to Workstation for the linux beginners/learners/students. It comes for free and is very user friendly. You can create new virtual machines in few simple steps and connect an ISO image to the virtual CD drive to install your operating system. Not only that, you can also connect the physical drive of your Desktop PC to the virtual machine; And then the physical drive can be used to load OS from a boot CD.

You can also edit the settings of your virtual machine (like adding/removing a new virtual hard disk, increasing/decreasing the size of memory available to the virtual machine etc etc).

The user interface is quite similar to that of Workstation. See my previous post on how to create a linux virtual machine. The Player itself comes up with a very nicely written User guide.

So, what are you waiting for ? Go get it and

Have Fun !!!

Enjoy this video while you download your player
